Ideal Scenario: Scientists and endometriosis surgeons working together! - Tamer Seckin, MD
Attending physician Lenox Hill Hospital, Founder and President of Endometriosis Foundation of America
A pioneer endometriosis specialist and an internationally renowned advanced laparoscopic surgeon, Dr. Seckin is a Clinical Associate Professor at Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra Northwell.
With over thirty years of experience exclusively performing excisional surgery on complex cases of endometriosis, he has established a multi-specialist team approach to treat women suffering from debilitating pelvic pain that involves the bowels, urinary tract, ureters, and extrapelvic locations such as the diaphragm and thorax. Dr. Seckin is in private practice in the Upper East Side, NYC, and works out of Lenox Hill Hospital. His passion for women’s health has manifested into philanthropic activism with the founding of the Endometriosis Foundation of America in 2009. Major national awareness efforts advocating for early diagnosis and timely intervention have initiated major changes in the way the disease is perceived and treated across America. The EndoFound has funded over $1 million in research, and supported advocacy efforts both in New York State and on Capitol Hill, including its recent flagship Menstrual Health & Endometriosis Legislation signed and mandated by Governor Cuomo in late 2019.
Dr. Seckin has written numerous book chapters and has co-authored many scientific papers on endometriosis. His co-authored article, “Cancer-Associated Mutations in Endometriosis without Cancer,” was featured in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2017, and is one of the most referenced papers on this subject. Dr. Seckin published his first book, The Doctor Will See You Now: Recognizing and Treating Endometriosis, in 2016. It is rated as the No. 1 most-read book on endometriosis on Goodreads.com. Just released in March 2020, his second book, Endometriosis: A Guide for Girls, is written to educate and support adolescents.
