Endo Historian & Professor of Medical Humanities, Albany College
New York, NY
Dr. Maria Rovito is a medical humanities scholar, writer, and endometriosis patient-advocate whose work confronts medical misogyny, chronic pain stigma, and the systemic dismissal of women’s health. She is a professor at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, where she teaches future healthcare professionals to challenge bias, center patient expertise, and practice medicine grounded in justice and care. Her forthcoming book, Cripping Endometriosis: Feminist Disability Histories and Reflections on Power and Pain (Palgrave Macmillan), blends archival research, feminist disability theory, and lived experience to expose how gynecological pain has been historically minimized and misunderstood. Dr. Rovito’s public scholarship appears in outlets such as WebMD, Ms. Magazine, and she is actively engaged in reproductive justice and endometriosis advocacy at national and community levels.
