Dr. Dan Martin to Represent EndoFound at the 2024 ACOG Congressional Conference

Dr. Dan Martin, EndoFound’s scientific and medical director, will attend the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists 42nd annual Congressional Leadership Conference from March 3-5 in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Martin’s attendance will mark EndoFound’s continued presence at high-profile state and federal legislative events to advocate for women’s health, specifically those with endometriosis. Dr. Martin last met with congressional leaders and their aides five months ago in the nation’s capital at the Society for Women’s Health Research conference.

“My goals at the ACOG event are to ensure that our legislators understand that women's issues, particularly endometriosis, are important, and that EndoFound is part of the advocacy effort,” Dr. Martin said. “There will be networking, and during that process, I’ll emphasize the need for more attention to endometriosis and the suffering of women.”

The conference theme is “Ob-Gyns in Action: Advancing Access through Advocacy.” According to ACOG, the theme “is a testament to ACOG members’ dedication to advocacy and continued drive to advance equitable health care for your patients in the face of unprecedented political interference in medicine. It also highlights the value of our partnerships with policy makers and how they inform and advance evidence-based policies.”

The sessions over the three days will feature:

  • An overview of the legislative process and tips for successful lobbying.

  • A deep dive into ACOG’s current legislative priorities.

  • Opportunities to meet with elected representatives.

  • Networking with fellow obstetrics and gynecology advocates.

  • The chance to have a positive impact on legislation.

Dr. Martin said the conference will broadly address all aspects of women’s health, from underserved patients to residency education to working with Medicare.

“And for me, a significant part is planning what I am doing between sessions,” he said. “Who will I talk to? What will I discuss? When someone discusses endometriosis, what does that mean to them?”

Dr. Martin is a life fellow of ACOG and past president of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists and the Gynecologic Laser Society. He has authored more than 450 publications on pelvic surgery for endometriosis and fertility. You can learn more about him and his work at www.endofound.org/-/dan-martin.
