8th Annual Blossom Ball

Padma Lakshmi

It’s a beautiful evening and it is such a great cause. Obviously it is a cause that is about a dear to my heart as is possible to be. I think we have made so much – we have got so much farther with our research goals, our educational goals. I got to lobby congress. So a lot of good things are happening. I met with, informally met with a lot of senators on Capitol Hill and you know, we are finally starting to cook!

Tonight is the first time that we are honoring two women who are very, very dear to my heart and are really well deserving. We usually typically honor a scientist or a surgeon and this is our first time we are giving Blossom Awards so we are honoring Susan Sarandon and Lena Dunham, both of whom have worked tirelessly for endometriosis. I think in the case of Susan it is actually a very long overdue award. She has been so supportive of us right from the beginning. She has done a video for us. She has been to this ball many times in support. She is an extraordinary woman, not only for what she does for endometriosis but just in general.

I think the voices of people whose faces are very well known on screen does help. This is how we change this – that is the common good that they have tremendous responsibility and they recognize that. That is the beautiful part of it.
